On Wednesday, September 20th, around 21:00, a large scale fire was ignited in the Koutsi area of the municipality of Nemea. The forces of the fire brigade fought with the flames during the night.
The fire could not be controlled even after 24 hours. The total disaster counts forest and rural damage.
Volunteers of EPOMEA Velou Voha, rushed to help in the difficult task of the fire brigade, by financially supporting and manning a fire vehicle.
A new section was added to the family of EPOMEA Greece with the creation of EPOMEA, Municipality of Markopoulo.
At the meeting held in the Civil Protection Office of the Municipality of Markopoulo between Deputy Mayor Mr. Stampelos Fanis, Civil Protection Officer Mr Sideris Stylianos and the Head of the Region of Central Greece, Southern Greece and the Islands as well as the Vice-President of EPOMEA Egaleo Mr. Lachanas Konstantinos, the beginning of this collaboration was sealed and welll embraced by all involved groups.
The President of EPOMEA Mr. Miltiadis Benakis, in a telephone conversation with the delegates, expressed his joy and satisfaction for: "... .the immediate positive response to the call of EPOMEA Greece to establish an annex in the Municipality of Markopoulo, with the main purpose of selflessly serving our fellow citizen..." and wished "... a good start to the new beginning of the Municipal Authority and the volunteer colleagues ".
Seismic activity of 6.3 Richter scale was recorded at 01.31 on Friday east of Kos, according to the estimation of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens. The epicenter of the earthquake is located about 33 kilometers east of Kos, with a focal depth estimated at 10 kilometers.
